'Learn2Live' Events

Rosemary's work also includes assisting at the 'Learn2Live' young drivers' project.  This is a Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue and Devon County Council initiative which is supported by all the emergency services.

Young people between the ages of 16-19 are shown a DVD featuring a mock-up of a fatal road traffic collision.  They then hear the true life stories of those emergency service personnel who have attended such inicidents.  Family members who have lost loved ones tell their personal stories too, finishing with an offending driver who has killed as a consequence of their driving.

These are highly emotive presentations and students are often surpised about how they respond.  The good news is that the numbers of killed and seriously injured amongst this age group is decreasing, which my well be attributable partly as a consequence of them attending the 'Learn2Live' events.

AIRSO - Association for Industrial Road Safety Officers

AIRSO was founded in 1965 and to this day is the only individual Membership organisation of its kind representing those who are in any way connected with the promotion and delivery of road safety education and training, road safety engineering, scientific research

into casualty reduction and injury mitigation, and the enforcement of traffic law.

We need to acknowledge that maintaining our safety on the road in much more than pure training as the knowledge and understanding which underpins our actions is paramount to our overall safety.

The ultimate aim of AIR

SO is to play its part to reduce casualties on the busy and often congested roads of the UK.
